Yuji Nishimura × Hapidanbui: The Chill-Cute Collab Returns!

Yuji Nishimura × Hapidanbui: The Chill-Cute Collab Returns!

"Ugh, you're so annoying... but I still like you."

That’s the kind of complicated affection Yuji Nishimura’s art tends to evoke—and this time, it’s back in full swing with a new round of collab goods featuring Sanrio’s Hapidanbui.
Starting Saturday, June 28, the second wave of the collab drops nationwide at Don Quijote and Apita/Piago stores.

With 16 total items—from tees and bags to hair accessories—this collection is packed with all the soft, scruffy charm you need when life gets a bit overwhelming.

Wait, what’s Hapidanbui again?

Pochacco, Tuxedosam, Kerokerokeroppi, Badtz-Maru, Hangyodon, and Pekkle
six Sanrio characters who’ve always felt a little clumsy, a little overlooked.

In 2020, they banded together with the motto: “We just want to be happy—time for a comeback!”
Sanrio gave them the full treatment, launching them as a unit named Hapidanbui. These legends of the Showa and Heisei eras are staging a wild Reiwa-era revival—and it’s glorious.

Now, they’re teaming up again with Yuji Nishimura, a beloved creator celebrating his 10th anniversary. His loose, laid-back style breathes new life into the squad. It’s not just comforting—it’s practically therapy.

The tees, the bags—effortlessly adorable.

This round features 16 items total, including T-shirts, loungewear sets, shorts, shoulder bags, charms, scrunchies… basically, it’s a full-course meal of cozy-cute merch.

Here are just a few highlights:

sub1.jpg Sagara Embroidered Tee – ¥1,999 before tax (¥2,199 incl. tax)
Wait, embroidered and under 2,000 yen? That’s just too kind. Hangyodon looks extra adorable here.

sub21.jpg All-Over Print Tee – ¥1,999 before tax (¥2,199 incl. tax) / Matching Shorts – ¥1,599 before tax (¥1,759 incl. tax)
Loud but not obnoxious. That effortless cool is classic Nishimura. Wear this combo and feel like you’ve unlocked a new life level.

sub14.jpg Plush-Style Shoulder Bag – ¥2,999 before tax (¥3,299 incl. tax)
This bag looks like it has a soul. You half expect it to start talking. Nishimura’s Keroppi is basically radiating affection.

sub10.jpg Terry Cloth Hoodie Set – ¥4,999 before tax (¥5,499 incl. tax)
Ultra-soft terry fabric, with a hoodie featuring the character’s face. Goofy but surprisingly well-made. Feels like instant mood-lift gear.

sub12.jpg Scrunchie – ¥1,299 before tax (¥1,429 incl. tax)
A character just chilling on top of a hair tie? Simple and adorable. After this, you’ll never go back to plain elastics.

Overall, the vibe is less "cute overload" and more “let go and breathe.”
This is the kind of stuff that gives your daily routine just the right amount of wiggle room. And yep—T-shirts and sets come with character hangers to keep things cute in your closet too.

(Just personally, Nishimura’s Keroppi is the MVP.) You can check out the full lineup on Sanrio’s official site:

RAW JAPAN Comment

Sanrio’s characters are already adorable, but Nishimura wraps that cuteness in something softer—something that builds attachment, not just appeal.

These chill, half-smiling characters won’t solve your problems, but they might help you go, “Eh, whatever.” And for real—if my current T-shirt fades in the wash, I’d feel sad. But if it were this one? I’d just call it “vintage charm.”
