5 Centimeters per Second" Gets a Live-Action Film — A Reunion 17 Years in the Making, Coming This October 10

But it all began with “5 Centimeters per Second.”

Cherry blossoms fluttering. A train gliding through the snow.
And emotions too quiet to put into words—
That story of subtle, aching stillness is finally getting a live-action adaptation.

Starring Hokuto Matsumura from SixTONES and directed by Yoshiyuki Okuyama,
this live-action version will try to recreate the delicate atmosphere captured in the original anime from 17 years ago.
Or maybe—this will become an entirely new kind of “Byōsoku.”

The film is scheduled to premiere on October 10, 2025.
It’s the kind of movie that will make you want to reach out to someone right after watching.
But that “someone” probably isn’t by your side anymore.
